A passport is not just a travel document; it is also valid identity proof which is accepted during a lot of legal procedures. It is imperative that you update the information on the passport if there have been any address changes due to a move. It is not possible to change the address without getting a new passport.
A passport is an essential document that every citizen must have in order to travel outside the country. More than that, a passport is a proof of identity and is widely accepted for various purposes. Therefore, when an individual moves permanently from their current permanent address, it is of utmost importance that they should have their new permanent residential address be updated on their passport with the help of Passport Seva.
Documents Required
- Original old Passport
- Copy of payment receipt or challan receipt
- Copy of your online application.
- Self-attested copies of the passport’s first two and last two pages.
- Self-attested copies of the page of observation, if any, made by Passport
- Issuing Authority.
- Self-attested copy of the ECR/ Non-ECR page.
- Self-attested copies of the validity extension page, if any, in respect of short validity passport.
- Address Proof: It should be noted that any of the following would suffice.
- Aadhaar Card
- Election Commission Photo/Voter ID card
- Electricity bill
- Water Bill
- Mobile Number/ Landline Number
- Proof of an LPG Connection
- A registered Rental Agreement
- Income Tax Assessment Order
- Photo passbook of an existing bank account. The bank may be a scheduled private sector Indian bank, scheduled public sector bank, or a regional rural banks only.
- Any certificate from the current employer on letterhead.
- Passport copy of the spouse which should contain the first and the last page of the passport including family details. It should be noted that the applicant’s present address must match the address mentioned in the spouse’s passport as well.
- Passport copy of the applicant’s parents, which should contain the first and the last page of the passport including family details, in the case of minors.
- For Minors: In addition to the documents as mentioned above, minor applicants are required to submit a declaration affirming the particulars that are mentioned in their passport application as prescribed in Annexure H.
- For Government Body/ Public Sector Undertaking/ Statutory Body: In addition to the documents that are listed above, the applicant will be required to submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) or a Prior Intimation Letter (PI) as mentioned in Annexure M and Annexure N, respectively.
- For Retired Government Officials: In addition to the documents that are mentioned above, a Retired Government Official would be required to submit a Pension Payment Order
How to Change Address in Passport ?
Step 1: Visit the Passport Seva website.
Step 2: Click on the ‘New User Registration’ option.
Step 3: Enter all your details and select your nearest passport office.
Step 4: Enter the CAPTCHA code and click on ‘Register’.
Step 5: Once you have completed the registration procedure, log in the Passport Seva porta using your credentials.
Step 6: Next, choose ‘Apply for Fresh Passport/ Reissue of Passport’ option from the homepage.
Step 7: Click on ‘Click here to fill in the application form online’.
Step 8: Enter certain details like passport booklet type and application type.
Step 9: Select ‘View Saved/ Submitted Applications’ option.
Step 10: Click on the ‘Pay and Schedule Appointment’ to make the payment.
Step 11: Now, click on the ‘Next’ button.
Step 12: You need to choose a PSK location and finally take a printout of the application receipt.
How to Change Address in Passport Offline?
Step 1: Visit the nearest Passport Seva Kendra and collect the form for passport application. Alternatively, you can also download the form from the official passport website.
Step 2: Fill out the form correctly and attach all the required documents.
Step 3: Visit the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Regional Passport Office (RPO) and submit the filled application form.
Step 4: Pay the applicable fees.
Step 5: Police verification may be conducted to confirm the new address. The process may take some time depending on the region.
Step 6: Once the police has verified all the details, you will receive a new passport.

Note:
- The above-mentioned fees once paid is non-refundable.
- The fees are applicable to minors between 15 to 18 years of age willing to avail themselves of a passport with 10-year validity.
- The above-mentioned application fee must be paid in addition to the takaal fee.
FAQs
Reason to Change Address in Passport?
If you are moving, or if your residential address has changed, you must update this information in your passport. The only way to update your address is to apply for a new passport. Through this process, you will receive a new passport with your current address and a new identity number.
